Hash Generator: SHA-512 and More
Generate and verify the hash of text or files. Everything is computed on your device — files are never uploaded.
Like echo "text" | sha512sum — echo appends a newline.
Algorithms
Hash of an empty string
Same in the terminal · SHA-512
For multi-line or long text, save it to a file and hash the file.
Hashes are computed in your browser with WebAssembly: text, files and keys never leave your device. The page works offline too.
Частые вопросы
What is a hash and why compare it?
It is a short fixed-length fingerprint of data: change a single byte and the whole hash changes. Software authors publish the hash next to the download. If it matches, the file arrived intact and was not tampered with.
Why doesn't my text hash match sha512sum in the terminal?
Usually it is the newline: echo "text" | sha512sum hashes the text with a trailing newline. Turn on "Trailing newline" or use printf '%s'. Files saved in Windows Notepad use CRLF line endings — there is a separate switch for that.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Hashes are computed in your browser with WebAssembly: the file is read from disk in chunks and never sent anywhere. That is why there is no size limit and the page works offline.
Which algorithm should I choose?
To verify a download, use the one the author published — most often SHA-256 or SHA-512. MD5, SHA-1 and CRC32 catch accidental corruption, but a file can be forged to match them. BLAKE3 is the fastest of the secure ones.
How do I verify files against SHA512SUMS?
Paste the checksum file into the verify field or drop the SHA512SUMS (or .sha256) file together with your files. Lines are matched by file name, showing which files match, which do not and which are missing — just like sha512sum -c.
